SPACES-IN-BETWEEN

(ALBUM 2020)

Source: Largeup (New York, USA)

“Dropping tomorrow through the artist’s own MindPeaceLove label and Tuff Gong InternationalJonathan Emile’s sophomore album Spaces-in-Between finds the Montreal-based singer/songwriter exploring his Jamaican roots and addressing life as a cancer survivor.

Emile, whose background is primarily as a rapper (he’s previously collaborated with Kendrick Lamar), broadens his musical horizons on the highly-personal project, pulling from a number of Jamaican genres from reggae to dub, as well as hip-hop, jazz, gospel and folk. “Savanna,” the project’s opening track and lead single, conjures the vibes of Jamaica’s Westmoreland parish — from which Emile’s family immigrated to Canada — with a sound that evokes Jr. Gong and Stephen Marley.”

BABYLON IS FALLING (REMIX) FT. MAXI PRIEST

(SINGLE 2020)

Source: Jamaica Cleaner (Kingston, Jamaica)

Singer, songwriter, and activist Jonathan Emile has recruited legendary British-Jamaican reggae fusion vocalist Maxi Priest for a remix of his prophetic ballad Babylon Is Falling. The track was released yesterday via Emile’s MindPeaceLove record label. It is distributed by Tuff Gong International.

“I can relate to the youthful energy he brings to the message. I grew up a young black man in Southeast London during a racially charged time. I’ve lived and feel that same pain. To see history continually repeating itself only shows the cause and effect of an unjust Babylonian system. I’m not saying there should be anarchy, but something must be done. There is a level of injustice that has been consistent throughout my lifetime. The new generation sees this through a clear lens, and they are making their voices heard,” Maxi Priest said.
